October 22nd, 2014 was the day our lives were changed forever. It’s hard to believe that it’s been two years since our miracle baby girl arrived almost three months early at 29 weeks. She is such a gift to us and words just can’t express all the feelings as her second birthday came and went.
Honestly, I never thought I’d enjoy being a momma this much. We still pinch ourselves when we think back on those grace-filled days when we held our little miracle amidst the cords and machines and alarms and doctors and nurses in the NICU. Our Abba has answered so many of our tear-filled prayers. He’s brought our 2lb little “Fair Warrior” so very far and her life is a constant reminder of His grace, power, and goodness!
As Finnley’s second birthday approached, we began brainstorming about a creative way to celebrate our little “Bunny” (her nickname since the NICU.)
Because Finnley loves animals –like seriously, seriously loves animals– we decided to throw her a different kind of party — the “Barnyard Bash” kind. (As former/recovering-city-slickers, we never thought we’d see the day, but here we are!)
We teamed up with a local petting zoo to bring all of Finnley’s favorite furry friends to our backyard — and boy, were those precious animals a hit! A huge shout out to Monkey See Monkey Do Exotic Petting Zoo for being Finnley’s favorite birthday gift yet!
One of the pros about inviting a petting zoo to your home is that you can have as many family/friends as you want — without having to worry about age restrictions or a maximum headcount. So, of course – we invited our gigantic family (all 57 of them) and a few friends too!
As we were reminiscing on the last two years, one thing in particular stood out to us. Perhaps one of the most surprising things about parenthood that we’ve realized along the way is just how loved and cherished we feel when others care for and love on our daughter.
It’s amazing really, how in loving her — you’ve loved us! All of your prayers, words of encouragement, and support is simply overwhelming and makes us feel so honored. To us, it paints such a beautiful picture of how our Abba must feel when we love one another — we’re His kids! Oh what a beautiful glimpse of His heart and an amazing feeling it is to be a part of His family! He’s such a sweet Papa!
A HUGE thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating our little miracle on her second birthday! Our hearts are forever grateful for our little girl and the love that you’ve shown her!
